American Photography (part 1)

The movie we watch called American Photography was about photography when it first started and it showed how the camera was invented, how time moved forward from people just drawing pictures of what they thought they saw. One the first camera's that was invented was called a "Brownie" and that was a camera that everyone could buy it was only $1.00 instead of the more expensive camera that was the Kodak. Photo's mean more to people then almost anything. Pictures capture memory's of childhood and family, friends, love, romance, and more of the sad stuff like war and death. They say that a photo can save a life. If you went to the doctor and they didn't have an xray to see if you broke something, or if you had a tumor what would you be able to do? Nothing.  A part in the movie talked about how people would make and send post cards to show friends and family what they have been up to or how is new in the family like a baby.  Just like we do now but now we will send stuff like emials or post a picture on facebook.
One thing that suprised me that they talked about in the video was photographers for a while weren't aloud to take pictures of war and show the real life of it and how it's not a glory thing to be in.  Things that infueced America were that when poeple took pictures it showed how people lived, poor, rich, or just living life and when people were able to take pictures of war it really showed Americans that wow it's not the great and what I imaginged was so wrong.  A quetion I have about photography would have to be what makes a person say to themselves hey I'm going to take a picture of that?  I know that with me it's because I think it looks cool or its just something with my friends I want to be able to look back on and remember.  It would be interesting to know what other people would say, as in really photographers and one's that take pictures of nature and animals.  What makes them want to record that in a photo?
